Touch and bodywork have been used throughout history to support healing; touch is a basic human need, and manual therapy can provide a deeply relaxing and renewing experience. Hands-on approaches at Spiral of Life include the treatment modalities below – click for more information. Each of these gentle therapies honor and work with your body’s innate ability to heal. In a whole-being bodywork session these approaches can be fully integrated together or you may select whichever one(s) you feel are the right fit for you.
Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle hands-on approach that helps to balance the function of the nervous system and bring greater alignment to the spine and other portions of the musculoskeletal system. You can experience many benefits from this method, including greater relaxation and presence in your body, reduced pain, improved alignment and movement, better recovery from trauma and more. CST has been part of my training and treatment since 2006. Learn more at the Upledger Institute website.
Visceral manipulation (VM) shares similarities with craniosacral work but can be applied to all the structures of the body. VM optimizes the function of the organs by improving their position, mobility and interactions. Beyond this it can be applied to all of the structures of the body, including blood vessels, nerves, muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments and more. From this approach you can gain better organ function (such as better digestion, improved urinary control and fuller, easier breathing), relief from pain, improved alignment, and more. VM has been part of my approach since 2007. More information at the Barral Institute website.
Unlike craniosacral therapy and visceral manipulation, which are subtle physical approaches to treatment, Reiki is an energetic technique. The work reiki is taken from Japanese, where it denotes “universal life energy,” and practitioners are attuned to allow this energy to flow through them to those they treat. This has the advantage of not depleting the energy of the practitioner or passing on anything from the practitioner’s personal energy. Reiki energy naturally flows to the areas in your body where it is most needed, and it supports your natural healing processes on all levels. In Reiki treatments you may experience the energy as warmth, a sense of flow or a perception of color, and you can find improved relaxation, reduced pain and greater emotional balance. I began Reiki training in 2000 and completed an apprenticeship to become a Reiki Master-Teacher in 2001.
These treatments combine craniosacral therapy, visceral manipulation and Reiki with shamanic healing practices. They harness the power not only of the practitioner’s healing intention but also bring forward the healing intentions of client. In addition to the benefits from each of the approaches described above, whole-being treatments reach deeper on an emotional and spiritual level, and can support your healing from negative thought patterns, past traumas and other concerns at the levels of the mind, emotions and spirit. My training in shamanic practices began with Char Sundust in 2010.
